Lydia W. Barry, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Gannon University

My research centers on the relationship between philosophy, politics, and poetry, especially as those relationships emerge in the dialogues of Plato. My current project, a full-length monograph on Plato's Protagoras, explores the distinction between philosophy and sophistry, arguing that the task of distinguishing between the two is ongoing and urgent. This distinction is central to the work of philosophy and crucial for personal and political flourishing, especially for citizens of a democracy. 

She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Boston College and a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College.
